NBN is in your area - What you need to know.

The NBN is now being offered in your location.


You should be aware that this has potential impacts to your internet, telephone, and facsimile services as some will be disabled within the next 18 months.


The NBN will enable businesses to take advantage of digital technologies that have been out of reach thus far. i.e. Offsite Backups, Hosted Phones, Cloud Solutions and other high speed services.

What parts of my business will be affected?


The NBN affects more than just the internet. It will affect:

Phones: If you are using VoIP or are thinking of using VoIP, switching to NBN will require changes to this setup.

Internet: Traditional ADSL services will be permanently switched off approximately 18 months after an area is announced as NBN ready. Make sure you are ready!

EFTPOS/ATM: The NBN network will involve new technologies and some existing devices may not be compatible.

Fire & Security Alarms: These services are normally connected to the old copper network which will be permanently switched off unless relocated elsewhere.

Fax: As above, fax services normally run on the old copper network, alternative solutions need to be implemented before this service is disconnected.

How do I connect to the NBN? It’s important to note that you are not automatically connected to the NBN when it comes to your area, however you will be automatically disconnected from the old service around 18 months after an area is announced as NBN ready. You and your chosen IT business partner need to engage with an internet service provider (ISP) such as Telstra, Vocus, iiNet, etc. and determine an appropriate internet plan. What new equipment will I need? What equipment you will need will depend on your requirements and current technology. If you are getting Fibre to the Premise (“FTTP”) then you will need:

  • Premise Connection Device (“PCD”): Installed by NBN outside your building

  • Network Termination Device (“NTD”): Installed inside your building

  • Battery Backup (Optional): Provides battery backup should mains power go offline

  • Router: The router is sometimes provided by the supplier

If however you are getting Fibre to the Node/Basement (FTTN/FTTB) then you will just require a compatible modem.
